Information has value
Lesson
Turing the lesson the user must show that information has value. The lesson is about The Happy Birthday song and the tune of 1893.
Learning outcomes
To respect the original ideas of others.
To value the skills, time and effort needed to produce knowledge.
To see themselves as contributors to the information market place rather than only consumers of it.
Extrinsic motivation
Explain the definition of information has value to the users.
- Information possesses several dimensions of value.
- as commodity, as a means of education, as a means of influence and as a means of negotiating and understanding the world. Legal and socioeconomic interests influence information production and dissemination.
Knowledge Practices
Give credit to the original ideas of others through proper attribution and citation.
Articulate the purpose and distinguishing characteristics of copyright, fair use, open access and the public domain.
Make informed choices regarding their online actions.
Activities
Ask the users to get an image of happy birthday from flickr.

Second Activity:
Ask the users to perform the song in public and make a YouTube video of their performance.
Reason:
They can perform the song in public because it is in the public domain.
Activity Three
Provide a reference citation to that the song Happy Birthday is in the Public Domain.

Searching as Exploration
Task:
Ask the users to search a book that was published by Nicolette V Roman. The users must look up an article about the same author, Nicolette V Roman about child and family studies and publish a summary of the article on the Community and Health Science Faculty Facebook page.

To enable the users to use different search platforms to do a search.
The user must be able to change the search strategy.
User must be able to use different options
Activity.
Use the library catalog and do an author search and select the source type which is book.
Use google to look up an article about family studies by Nicolette Roman.
Design a power point presentation where you use Sabinet Reference to look up the articles about Nicolette V Roman.
Knowledge Practices:
User must be able to determine the scope of the question. Listen to what the user is asking.
Identify interesting parties. Connect the author with an organisation.
Move from basic search option to advance search option. If the basic search option does not bring up any search results move to the advance option.
